Real game mechanics

At the decisive moment the engine hands your player the dice. The roll happens on the server, in front of the whole table, and the AI narrates from the result, never the other way around. Every roll is saved in the case file.

Host a campaign

Get the host app

Download it for macOS or Windows, open it, and sign in with your Tavernbard account. It sets everything up for you.

Pick your Discord channel

Press Connect, choose your server, choose the channel. That channel becomes the table, and nothing has to be typed in Discord.

Seat the game master

The app runs the AI you already pay for, on your own machine. It checks what you have installed, walks you through anything missing, and plays one real game master turn before you sit down at the table.

Questions from the table

Who pays, me or my players?

Only the host, and only once. The one payment covers your whole table, and your players just need Discord. They play free, forever, and never install a thing.

What do I need to start?

A Discord server, a Tavernbard account, and your own AI subscription. The story runs on the AI you already pay for; Tavernbard adds the engine: the dice, the rules, and a memory the AI cannot fudge.

Which AI do I need?

Whichever you like. Tavernbard runs inside your own AI subscription, so you always play on the best model you can reach. We never route you through a weaker model or cap how much you can play.

Can I run it in more than one Discord server?

One at a time. Your copy connects to a single server, with as many channels and campaigns inside it as you want, and you can move it to a different server whenever you like - the campaigns come with you.

What systems can we play?

All major tabletop systems work out of the box, and campaign modules teach your game master any homebrew or custom ruleset, from high fantasy to hard science fiction.

What happens if the party wipes?

Checkpoint before the boss and roll back on demand. Campaign state is versioned, so a total party kill is a plot twist, not a funeral.

Can I play alone?

Yes. Solo mode runs a full campaign right in your terminal, with the same honest mechanics as a full table.
